              <text>Edward Lear est un &amp;eacute;crivain, illustrateur et ornithologue britannique, connu pour ses po&amp;eacute;sies et pour ses dessins. Il est n&amp;eacute; le 12 mai 1812 dans la banlieue de Londres et d&amp;eacute;c&amp;egrave;de le 29 janvier 1888 en Italie. Il quitte t&amp;ocirc;t le foyer familial et est &amp;eacute;duqu&amp;eacute; par sa s&amp;oelig;ur ain&amp;eacute;e. &lt;br /&gt;A partir de ses 19 ans il commence &amp;agrave; gagner sa vie en tant qu'illustrateur pour le comte de Derby. Ce dernier lui demande de dessiner les oiseaux et les animaux qu'il collectionne et fut son premier protecteur. Edward Lear met au point en 1830 un ouvrage intitul&amp;eacute; &lt;a href="http://atrium.umontreal.ca/notice/UM-ALEPH002167547" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Illustrations of the Family of Psittacidae, or Parrots&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/a&gt;, il peint les animaux &amp;agrave; partir de collections priv&amp;eacute;es et des sp&amp;eacute;cimens pr&amp;eacute;sents au zoo de Londres. A partir de 1846, il devient professeur de dessin de la Reine. Preuve de son talent, ses toiles sont expos&amp;eacute;es &amp;agrave; la Royal Academy en 1850. C'est un grand voyageur qui a visit&amp;eacute; l'Europe, l'Orient, l'Inde, etc. De ses exp&amp;eacute;ditions il rapporte d'innombrables dessins et aquarelles des esp&amp;egrave;ces qu'il a pu &amp;eacute;tudier. Il s&amp;rsquo;int&amp;eacute;resse aussi aux paysages et publie &lt;a href="http://atrium.umontreal.ca/notice/UM-ALEPH002167426" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Views in the seven Ionian islands&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/a&gt; en&amp;nbsp;1863. Il publie de nombreux recueils similaires &amp;agrave; celui-ci. Il a particip&amp;eacute; &amp;agrave; des projets de vulgarisation de l'Histoire Naturelle, il illustre notamment certaines planches de &lt;em&gt;The Naturalist's Library&lt;/em&gt; de &lt;a href="/omeka/items/show/159"&gt;William Jardine&lt;/a&gt;.</text>
