<span>Raymond Ching apprend dès l’enfance le dessin. Devenu adulte, insatisfait du poste de directeur artistique qu'il occupe dans une agence de publicité néo-zélandaise, il commence à peindre. Sa première exposition connait un franc succès. Sir William Collins des éditions Collins, lui présente Peter Scott, qui propulse sa carrière à un niveau international. Impressionnés par l'originalité et la singularité du travail de Raymond Harris-Ching, ces hommes trouvent en lui l'artiste apte à réaliser le projet <em>Reader's Digest Book of British Birds</em>. Publié en 1969, ce livre est devenu un best-seller traduit en plusieurs langues. Le style de Harris-Ching peut être décrit comme un expressionnisme conservateur, un style où l’image dépasse la simple précision photographique.</span>

<p>Robert Bateman est un naturaliste et un peintre animalier canadien né à Toronto en 1930. Dès l'enfance, il montre beaucoup d’intérêt pour la faune et la flore. À l’âge adulte, il voyage autour du monde pour explorer la nature et pour trouver de nouveaux sujets pour ses toiles. N’ayant pas eu l’intention de vivre de son art, il devient professeur d’histoire tout en continuant à peindre. Il s’illustre d’abord en réalisant des peintures abstraites et c’est à partir du début des années 1960 qu’il se met à peindre des paysages réalistes. Entre 1970 et 1980, le travail de Robert Bateman commence à être reconnu. Il quitte alors le monde de l’enseignement pour se consacrer complètement à la peinture. Plusieurs expositions lui sont spécialement consacrées, dont celle du <em>Smithsonian Institution </em>de Washington, en 1987. Ses tableaux reflètent ses engagements pour la protection de la nature. Il utilise son art pour la défense de l’environnement. Plusieurs de ses tableaux ont été choisis par la fondation de la faune du Québec pour illustrer leur timbre de conservation. Il est aussi le créateur de <em>The Robert Bateman Foundation </em>qui a pour objectif d’encourager le respect de la nature. </p>

Biographie
Ornithologue américain, Roger Tory Peterson est célèbre pour avoir popularisé le guide de poche (field guide). À ce titre il est s’est avéré un vulgarisateur inégalé en son domaine. Après des études en design, il devient professeur d'art et de sciences dans une école de la banlieue de Boston. Son premier guide, <em>A Field Guide to the Birds</em>, publié par Houghton Mifflin en 1934, remporte un succès inespéré. Le tirage de 2000 exemplaires est épuisé en une semaine. De son propre aveu, Peterson aurait été influencé par Ernest Thompson Seton et son livre <em>Two Little Savages</em> pour ce qui concerne sa manière de schématiser certaines caractéristiques aviaires. Cette simplification dans l’illustration facilita la reconnaissance des différents spécimens par le plus grand nombre. Après l’Amérique, Peterson s’intéresse à l’Europe et produit en1954,<em> Field Guide to the Birds of Britain and Europe</em>, qui connait un succès mondial, étant vendu à plus de deux millions d'exemplaires. Par la suite, Peterson publie des guides de poche sur divers sujets, par exemple, sur les papillons et sur les coquillages.
