Il participe &agrave; diff&eacute;rentes explorations du Nouveau Monde comme celle de Martin Frobisher, premier anglais &agrave; rencontrer les Inuits, qu'il accompagne en tant qu'artiste entre 1576 et 1578. Six ans plus tard, John White se joint &eacute;galement &agrave; l'exp&eacute;dition de Walter Raleigh, et joue un r&ocirc;le important dans l'&eacute;tablissement en 1587 et en 1589, sur l'&icirc;le de Roanoke, d&rsquo;une premi&egrave;re mais fort tragique colonisation anglaise en Am&eacute;rique. John White publie ses dessins dans A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia (1588) avec l'intention de r&eacute;aliser une encyclop&eacute;die visuelle sur la r&eacute;gion. Ses dessins connaissent par la suite une grande diffusion lorsqu&rsquo;ils sont repris dans les Grands Voyages de Th&eacute;odore de Bry qui les utilise pour illustrer son volume sur l&rsquo;Am&eacute;rique en 1590. Oubli&eacute;e jusqu'au xixe si&egrave;cle, l'importance de son &oelig;uvre est d&eacute;sormais reconnue : ce sont les premi&egrave;res repr&eacute;sentations des Am&eacute;rindiens, de la faune et de la flore de Nouveau Monde &agrave; parvenir en Angleterre.
